Great Day of Sevice

Bring friends and family for NPC's fun and meaningful day of service in and around our city. There is something for the whole family! Complimentary childcare for children under 5 is available for projects onsite at NPC with RSVP to: childcare@nationalpres.org. Everyone age 5 and up can serve!
 

Projects

  • Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now): Sort and pack over 17,000 meals for emergency distribution to people affected by disaster and famine. Walk-ups welcome, but sign-ups encouraged. Feel free to sign up for multiple shifts (Shift #1 (setup) at 8:30 a.m., Shift #2 from 9:30-10:50 a.m., Shift #3 from 11:10-12:30 p.m.)! Gloves and hairnets provided; Hats can be substituted for hairnets.
  • Registration Hosts: Welcome and sign in volunteers to Rise Against Hunger Shift #2 from 9:30-10:50 a.m., and Shift #3 from 11:10-12:30 p.m.
  • Hallway Hospitality: Help volunteers to Rise Against Hunger Shift #2 from 9:30-10:50 a.m., and Shift #3 from 11:10-12:30 p.m. get t-shirts and nametags. 
  • Unique Learning Center: Tutor and share a meal with kids from Unique Learning Center, an NPC mission partner that provides educational, recreational, and spiritual support for kids and teens in DC. 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Includes lunch with the kids). 
  • Habitat for Humanity: Help provide sustainable housing in the District through DC Habitat. This project will take place in Ivy City, DC. Ages 16+. No experience necessary but physical labor required. 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church Food Pantry: Help sort, organize, and clean this local food pantry. This project will take place at the Greater Mt. Calvary Food Pantry at 605 Rhode Island Ave NE. 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Physical labor required. 
  • Ministry with a Pen: Advocate for refugees and ending hunger in our world, encourage persecuted Christians, and write to those in need of encouragement. 9:30 a.m. - Noon
  • Engaging the Homeless Class: Learn from Lazarus and Central Union Mission as they share the best ways to care for the homeless in our city. Choose between Class #1 (9:30-10:30 a.m.) or Class #2 (11 a.m. - 12 p.m.)
  • Central Union Mission Box Team: Prepare boxes for donations (9 - 10 a.m.). 
  • Central Union Mission Donation Drive: Bring clothes, electrical appliances, sporting goods, toys, kitchenware, books and educational materials to ease the burden on low income families. Donations accepted from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Sheets and Towels for Refugees: Bring in new sheets and towels for newly resettled refugee families. Donations accepted from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • FULL Military Ministry Care Packages: Help assemble care packages for wounded soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who are at military hospitals in our area. Care package item donations will be accepted through May 20. Items needed. Bags will be assembled from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
