Great Day of Service 2024

Get ready to roll up your sleeves and make a difference because National Presbyterian Church is hosting the 2024 Great Day of Service on May 18, 9:30 am – 1:00 pm.

We’re on a mission to show the love of Jesus to our city and world, and we need YOUR help. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or not, there’s a place for you. Even out-of-area members and friends can participate.

We’ve got a variety of projects lined up to suit every interest and skill set. Every one of our hands-on projects is designed to help people in need, from working with Habitat for Humanity to packing meal kits for people experiencing food insecurity.

Remote Participation:  Even if you’re miles away, you can make a tangible difference:

  • Donate to the purchase of more meal kits on the registration form. No matter the size, every donation helps provide more meals. Our budget maxed out at 17,000 meal kits. We believe you can help us provide 20,000 or more.
  • Ship non-perishables, children’s books, or new clothing directly to the church address, and we will include the items in the Great Day collections.

Hands-on Projects

  • Build with Habitat for Humanity: Come be a part of something meaningful and make a lasting impact in our city. We’re not just constructing houses but building hope, stability, and brighter futures for families in need. There’s a place for you on our team, even if you’re not handy with tools. Every pair of hands makes a difference.
  • Pack Meal Kits with Rise Against Hunger: Join our mission to combat hunger on a global scale by packing meal kits for those in need. Each nutritious meal will nourish hungry bellies and fuel brighter futures. No special skills are needed, just a willingness to lend a helping hand. Meal packing is our most family-friendly project, accommodating ages 5 to 95 and above. Last year, Rise Against Hunger shipped our meal kits to Madagascar, which had been impacted by a cyclone.
  • Make Cards and Fun Kits for Children’s Hospital: Spread a little sunshine and lift spirits with handmade cards and fun kits. Your cards and fun kits will brighten someone’s day and remind them they’re not alone. Bring your creativity and make a difference one card or kit at a time.
  • Donate Food and Clothing: It’s time to clean out your closets and cupboards and donate nonperishable food items and gently used clothing to individuals and families facing hardship in our city. Every item you give will bring comfort and relief to those in need. The Central Union Mission provides food and clothing to those in need and the UDC Student Pantry stocks healthy snacks.
  • Donate Children’s Books: Let’s ignite young imaginations and foster a love of reading by providing new and gently used children’s books for Little Lights and Solutions in Hometown Connections (SHC). SHC helps refugees build Little Free Libraries in their communities. We’re especially looking for titles that reflect a variety of cultures and ethnicities.
  • Help Collect Children’s Books, Food, and Clothing: You can help others be generous by receiving and organizing their donations. Your helping hands are welcome in any of our three donation areas listed on the registration form.
  • Unique Learning Center: Make a difference in a child’s life by sharing the joy of reading or learning math. Turn learning into an adventure. Your support can inspire the next generation of thinkers, dreamers, and doers. Join a group of kids and volunteers at ULC for adventures in learning and lunch.

So mark your calendars, rally your family, friends, and neighbors, and make the Great Day of Service 2024 the best! Together, we can make an impact.

See you there!
