Martin Luther once remarked that we are saved by faith alone but the faith that saves is never alone.

Our study of Galatians and James will attempt to probe and flesh out that statement. Galatians has been described as the Magna Carta of Christian liberty. The letter is Paul’s manifesto of
justification by faith alone refuting the legalism that threatened to ensnare the Galatian churches. A punctilious, self-righteous spirituality will never do. On the other hand, James is all about vital, practical Christianity. He wants to “see the goods”. Faith must be validated by how Christians live. This class will attempt to put Paul and James side by side in a discussion of biblical saving faith and its proper outworking.

Different from the three synoptic gospels, the gospel of John describes the life of Jesus with both pathos and profundity. It feels as if it were written by a close friend, who has reflected deeply on the stunning implications of Jesus’s actions, teaching, death, and resurrection. John wants us to understand and pray through who Jesus is and how knowing him should change us. For many, John has brought Jesus to life, revealing a hope and a presence that will transform the world.

This conversational class draws on N. T. Wright’s “For Everyone Bible Study Guides, John: 26 Studies for Individuals and Groups," to help us explore together the gospel’s presentation of Jesus’ life and teachings and what they mean for us today.

Tim Keller and Dr. John Inazu assembled a community of contemporary Christian leaders from diverse fields to share their stories and reflections about engaging with hope in our fragmented times. Guided by these writers and Scripture, we will explore our own contexts and callings

Join parents of similar ages and stages for fellowship and reflection on the Sunday School lesson your children are learning. Once a month we will be joined by one of our pastors for conversation. Jones Hall is located in the National Presbyterian School Building, across from the covered driveway entrance to the main sanctuary building.
