The National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon (NESSL)

NESSL is the Presbyterian church in Syria and Lebanon. The Syrian Civil War has displaced over half the Syrian population and more than half of its children, interrupting a whole generation’s education. In Lebanon, where many Syrian families have found safety, the kids are unable to enroll in Lebanese public schools. The Synod of Syria and Lebanon has set up a network of Christian schools with a Syrian curriculum to serve the refugees and offer hope for the day when they are able to return to Syria. Parents of Christian and Muslim refugee kids alike have been thrilled with the good values and education that their kids, who previously had no opportunities all day, are receiving.

Through The Outreach Foundation, National is helping the Presbyterian Church in Lebanon expand these schools’ capacity to serve the refugee community. Not only have the schools been teaching kids, but they have provided medical, dental, psychological and spiritual care for 750 Syrian children in our partner schools. The Outreach Foundation reports that through God’s work in NESSL’s schools, they are seeing Syrians come to Christ at a higher rate than ever before seen. We are grateful to be a part of God’s witness in the region. The Outreach Foundation asks for prayers for Lebanon as a country and for the family members that Syrian refugees have had to leave behind.
